Some people don’t grow up and never learn. One man’s tragedy is other people’s comedy and, possibly, the subject of a host of great songs. Lewca has got plenty of stories that will make you chuckle with concern, a booming sound, and no desire to spare any details.

Before the album starts proper, we are treated to a not so complimentary intro from Fire Up The Sun’s MC Burnoot, who mocks and basically takes the p*ss out of LEWCA backed by screaming bagpipes, LEWCA appeared on Fire Up The Sun’s album so it’s clear that it’s all done in jest. Like said expect the unexpected.

When MF DOOM and Danger Mouse joined forces to release their DANGERDOOM project, they decided to open the album with a question. ‘Why did you buy this album?’ they queried, before calling anyone who did ‘stupid’.

As I wrote last October when I reviewed his brilliant album Friday Night Rockstar (which you can read here), singer-songwriter-musician Lewca is one of the funniest, most creative and irreverent artists I’ve come across, with a deliciously bawdy sense of humour.

First things first: the enjoyment of this album is not restricted to any generation. Boomers, zoomers, doomers or shroomers can collectively sigh and consequently turn up the volume. That was the easy part because Lewca’s second longplayer Boombap for Boomers is not meant to be an easy album...

The other day, I read in the newspaper, that "gaslighting" (the act of manipulating someone so as to make them question their own sanity / behaviour that is misleading and deceitful) is the word of the year. So, how apt that, on the same day, this new track, Gaslight, arrived from Le Spectre & Lewca. 

Brixton-born, self-proclaimed ‘geezer’ Lewca has just last month released his debut album, Friday Night Rockstar. He describes the body of work as ‘’the swan song of a forty-something Geezer running headfirst into a midlife crisis on the fumes of his turbulent youth.’’

Yes, this album has more than a few profanities on it so if that offends you or your sensibilities you might as well fuck off now.  Still reading? Awesome! The album opens with a piano ballad and an acknowledgment that life is finite. It then offers a message of self-improvement set to wicked drum n bass track.

Lewca is a Brixton-born musician who moved to French capital Paris where he played in several bands and collaborated with musicians of different backgrounds and spheres. Being surrounded by the anarchist influence of squats and artist métiers, Lewca early began breaking up and re-arranging genre features. 

Lewca grabbed our attention with ‘Forget My Name’ a couple of months ago and we were blown away by the talent and energy the artist brings to the table. ‘Forget My Name’, Lewca showcases a unique sound and an infectiously catchy vocal performance that’ll surely have you humming along in no time

Lewca is a now forty-something bloke from Brixton living in Normandy (France) with three kids, a mortgage and a day job. “My main challenge in life is juggling my pre-disposition with substance abuse, my ambitions of musical world domination and my day to day obligations, and still find time to make cool stuff out of lego with the kids.”

Hello. You have a new song out titled “I’m Alright”. What is the story behind the song and how did you create/write it? Also, what inspired the song title? 
The song is a collab with Sean Buckley, he had released the instrumental and was looking for a singer to write & and perform vocals, I liked the tune and I came up with a topline in a few hours I guess… 

After Invisible Squirrel remixed one of Lewca’s songs earlier this year, they have now teamed up for ‘Balls Out’. The song is out 8th September.

Once again, a new release by Paris' restless genre bender Lewca. The artist describes his latest EP "Geezer Pop" with the words "Pretty random I guess...". The new solo project from Lewca is extremely eclectic. He’s an indie artist based in France and together we share some thoughts about his release, the french punk scene, and how personal life inspires his music. 

Some weeks ago, we listened to Lewca's debut EP "3 Kids and a Mortgage". The sophomore release "Walking the Hedgehog" is, of course, much more recent, but it also is very different from the debut. But don't you worry, it still is a beautifully weird EP.

Refreshingly down-to-Earth, Lewca delivers a no-nonsense rock gem that bucks the trend, making for a fresh listen. It’s a bold musical direction (and one that’s not quite radio-friendly) – but that makes it all the more relevant and charming. In all honesty, the world, and music industry, could do with some less pretentious, more direct rock goodness like this.

Infinite monkeys with typewriters might ape Shakespeare — but it won't be half as fun as this audacious batch of rap-rock from one middle-aged geezer with a microphone.

Somewhere in Paris, probably in a room that keeps at least two souvenirs from Brixton, close to a can of beer and a glass of rum, most certainly in view of The Clash's "Combat Rock", Lewca has written the lyrics for his first EP "3 Kids and a Mortgage" - at least, it would make sense.

The last time that we visited Lewca’s world, he was busy making fun, loud, silly, laddish punk rock with a modern twist. Little has changed. The man himself remains as misanthropic as ever. He’s not here to make friends, but he will have a good time at the possible expense of his safety and that of those around him.

The mundane experiences of life are over glossed over as something that happens all the time without any drama. These moments do actually have their own drama which Lewca is bringing to our ears with his EP 3 Kids & A Mortgage...

Back From The Dead is one of those genre-defying eclectic songs that you just like. Think from with a catchier chorus and you will have a pretty good idea of how this tune sounds... 

We’ve reviewed Lewca before. If you think that in the time that has elapsed the man has grown up or managed to get himself together, you will be happy to learn that this is not the case. If anything, he has found partners to share in his beer-guzzling day-to-day rituals. 

Lewca is the professional name of multidisciplinary musician and artist, Lewis Cuthbert-Ashton. Originally from the UK, the singer, rapper and songwriter has spent much of his life in France where he currently resides. After years of creative exploration, playing in multiple bands and living life he decided to embark on a solo project. Lewca was born.

You can’t expect to make an impression dressed in a drab suit and talking politely to people. There’s an element of peacocking about Rock music that has been lost on recent, more humble, and less fame famished generations. Humility is not for Lewca, though, luckily for our entertainment...
